Anjou "Christmas Quarter"

Blanc

This is the plot where it all began in 2013, a small plot of very old Chenin planted in the early 1920s on a sandstone-schist hillside with quartz, facing south towards the Layon, in Faye d'Anjou. The name bears the Anjou mark of separation for certain hillsides, the "Quarts" historically designating the best parts (as here the Quart des Noëls is contiguous with the Noëls hillsides). In these old vines, each vine stock is a monument, shaped by almost a century of short pruning (goblet fan) and is a genetically unique individual, stemming from old mass selections, giving complexity to the whole.

Manual harvest, gentle pneumatic pressing, fermentation and aging in old barrels and demi-muids.
